As our current challenge is paper piecing, I thought I'd share a quick tutorial. Paper piecing is a great technique where you basically fill areas of your image with patterned / coloured paper. It makes an interesting change to colouring in your images and can create a nice balance with the background of your card.
I am paper piecing the 'girl in car' stamp (16.011.K) with patterned paper by Bo Bunny Press (splendor swirl). This car is great for paper piecing - how about using a bold flower print for a hippie card...!
I stamped the image onto my patterned paper and also onto a couple of extra pieces of white card.
As the body of the car will be covered with paper, I only coloured the parts which would not be covered, using koh-i-noor pencils
and blended with baby oil using blending stumps.
I then carefully cut out all the coloured elements ready to piece together.
For the really fiddly bits such as the door handle and headlights, I stuck some double sided tape at the back before cutting. This way they are ready to stick down and you don't need to cut tiny pieces of tape for them which will be even fiddlier!
Before sticking down all the pieces, I took another stamped image and coloured around it to make it pop (it will be harder to do this afterwards when you have stuck down your layers). I actually overdid it a little and would prefer less! :)
Then stick down all the elements (I cut out an extra arm to place over the top).
You can attach the wheels using 3d pads or how about brads so that they spin around!
Here's another beautiful example of paper piecing that I love, by DT member Deborah Southard

Great tutorial. Love the tip about putting DST behind the image before cutting out the image, making it far less fiddly!
Thanks for sharing, love your tutorials!

Great tutorial, love the effect and the tip about putting the DS tape on the fiddly bits before cutting out is priceless - so simple, but I'd never have thought of it!
